Case Study 11: A 38-year-old man has been increasingly anxious about his job in a large manufacturing company. He feels that he has been passed over for a promotion several times. The patient is preoccupied with many small events and conversations that have occurred at work during the year and worries how his superiors will interpret them. He finds it difficult to control his worrying. During the day at work he feels restless and edgy. At home he is irritable and has difficulty sleeping. He wife asks him about work but he doesn’t want to talk about it.

GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER
This 38 year old man has an anxiety disorder which is not all that uncommon. Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD involves anxiety and worry that is excessive and unrelenting. Many people suffer from this disorder and it can cause constant worry and anxiety that results in a lack of sleep, not to mention the physical toll that it causes your body. The good thing about having GAD is that it is treatable and many things can help including self-help strategies and therapy. The difference between this man's case of him having this disorder rather than him just worrying like a normal person is the fact that it interferes with him job, family, sleep, and everyday life. It is always in his mind and it is constantly disrupting him. If I were to prescribe treatment to this man I would send him to therapy and give him a temporary medication to relieve him of his anxiety. The treatment really will help and his life should turn around and be better.

i think that's right, it would really suck to get that disorder.
I think this was a very interesting post. I agree with Chris about not wanting to have Generalized Anxiety Disorder! You had a great explanation of what GAD's symptoms are, though I recommend that you describe what kinds of therapy or drugs you might prescribe.
Hmm I had the same study, but i diagnosed him with depression mabey im wrong, but yours is good too.
That is an accurate diagnosis of the situation, it could be interpreted in another way.
I think GAD is the right choice. Excessive worrying that interferes with his life which he can't control...sounds scary.
It's good to know that generalized-anxiety disorder is easily treatable. Good job with the description of GAD
Very good blog. I like how you explained everything simply instead of using a lot of technical terms. Also, you did a good job on diagnosing and identifying treatments for the patient.
I liked your explanation of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and its symptoms. I wish you had described the kinds of therapy or medications that might help with the disorder but other than that, it was a great post!
I would hate to worry like that everyday
